Open Data

The primary datasource for the academic and bibliographic information in Global Campus is OpenAlex. OpenAlex is developed and maintained by OurResearch and has quickly become the best bibliographic dataset out there.

Global Campus is a proud member and paying supporter from the earliest days of OpenAlex. We try to share insights, approaches and report on data quality issues to help improve the dataset for the entire academic community.

Enrichments

Global Campus enriches and enhances the data from OpenAlex at various stages. During ingestion, we add extra features on authors and journals. During search, we use semantic information to reconcile additional authors, and after the search results are returned we enrich the data with information from third-party sources like Orcid and Google Scholar profiles.

Bring your own data

For specific clients, we also enable querying internal datasources. Some universities might have a list of focus area descriptions with which they want to match their researchers, or consultancy firms might have descriptive datasets of companies they want to connect to research or funding opportunities. You can learn more about a specific application of such a dataset through our collaboration with Idox.
